Giant Lobelias tower like monolithic giants over the grasslands. These grasslands support an incredible biomass of rodents (including the impressive Giant Molerat), attracting an array of raptors. The most celebrated resident is the Ethiopian Wolf, the world’s rarest canid.
SIMIEN MOUNTAINS
This world heritage site, home to the highest mountains in Ethiopia, provides a dramatic backdrop to two of the country’s most endangered mammals – the Gelada Baboon and Walia Ibex. Troops of Geladas thrive here and close encounters with these fascinating primates is certainly one of the world’s great primate experiences.
GONDAR
The city retains an atmosphere of antique charm and contains the hulking ruins of a group of imposing medieval castles – known as the “Camelot of Africa”.
LALIBELA
Lalibela is home to unique 12th century monolithic churches, carved out of solid rock and now appropriately considered one of the wonders of the world.
